Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who are we at American Technology Consulting, LLC?

  • How does it benefit me to join a consulting firm, rather than the end client?

  • There are multiple benefits to joining an IT consulting company rather than an End Client. The most important one is that IT consulting companies are in the business of holding on to their employees including their H1B work force. During a financial crisis, the H1B employees will not lose their jobs/visa status inspite of the fact that the project they were helping the client with is abruptly terminated. Consulting companies move their employees to different projects/clients but this does not affect the employees' H1B visa status. Whereas the end clients are in the business of supporting their business model (banking, healthcare etc). They have little reason to hold on to unneeded employees for IT projects within the United States. Historically, budget cuts and/or financial crisis’s seem to happen every 5 to 7 years.

  • How long does it take to get an H1B transfer and when can ATC start my green card process?

  • H1b transfers usually take 5 days to prepare and once filed it takes up to 3 months to be approved though the normal process (perhaps within 14 business days through premium processing). Upon approval of the H1B and availability of a recruitment that matches the consultant’s prior experience, ATC can possibly file a Green Card application with first 3 to 6 month of joining. In some cases, it could be earlier than 3 months depend on the candidates profile and the available requirements every 5 to 7 years.

  • Do I get any benefits?

  • Yes at American Technology Consulting we provide holiday pay ,health insurance for individuals and family , 401K. We also provide H1B and green card sponsorship.

  • A full time job with an end client has stability while with a consulting company, I keep moving from project to project. How does that justify that working with a consulting company is better than working directly with an end client?

  • For IT consulting companies, the focus is making sure their employees are available in the United States on a valid H1B visa to complete their Clients projects on time. If these H1B employees are not working at a Client site, it means IT consulting companies are losing money. IT consulting companies are in the business of holding on to their employees and not letting them go back to their respective countries. This makes it their primary focus and business model. On the other hand, End Clients like Wells Fargo, Bank of America, or any other client for that matter, are not in the business of doing IT projects or staffing for IT projects. , They are in the business of banking or mortgage and that’s what they do best. Most clients like the Fortune 100 or 500 would rather subcontract these IT Jobs and not deal with H1B employees. They are in the banking business and not in the staffing business. If you understand the business model of IT consulting companies it will be clear that it is safer to work for an IT consulting company rather than work with an End Client on a H1B visa.

  • How long does it take to get an H1B transfer and when can ATC start my green card process?

  • H1b transfers usually take 5 days to prepare and once filed it will take up to three months to be approved though the normal process and within 14 business days through premium processing. Upon approval of the H1B and availability of the recruitment that matches the consultant’s prior experience, ATC can possibly file a Green Card application within the first 3 to 6 month of joining. In some cases it could be earlier than 3 months; it depends on the candidates profile and the available recruitments.

  • I get a lot of benefits from my current full time job, I do not see that with a consulting company. Can you list the benefits I get?

  • 1) When you work with a full time employer, you will have the benefit of having your Green Card processed, it is important to a lot of H1B holders to have their green card process started. Getting them started is the hardest part with most clients.
    2) Your salary will vary from project to project, which means you make what you work for unlike fulltime jobs when the employer sends you where they want to send you giving you a minimum cost of living allowance or (COLA), as they call it.
    3) Your future in the country is far more secure compared to a fulltime opportunity – Please refer question number – 3.

  • How many H1B transfers has ATC completed in the past year?

  • We process between 100 and 120 H1B transfers per year.

  • Is it safe to do a H1B Visa transfer?

  • Absolutely , there is no reason for the USCIS to deny H1B’s. For more information read our blog on Common fears about H1B transfers http://atcstaffing-commonh1bfears.tumblr.com/

  • What is the process to land in a project once I start with ATC?

  • It is a three step process to land in a project:
    1. Marketing – This allows candidates to explore opportunities with our marketing team who will work with the candidates and set up interviews.
    2. Pre work before starting the project – Includes H1B transfer initiation, Labor Condition Approval from Department of Labor.
    3. Approximately 7 days after pre work (b), a H1B RECEIPT NUMBER will be issued for the candidate to start working at the new project. After starting a new project and, the H1B is approved, a copy of the H1B document will be sent with the petition to American Technology Consulting.

  • How soon can I get a project with ATC?

  • This is based on the market situation and availability of the candidate; however, its average turnaround time is about 2 to 3 weeks.

  • What if I decide I do not want to take up a project after the first round of interview? Will ATC continue to help get me a different project?

  • It varies on a case-by-case basis .We always make sure the consultant is interested in a project before any client submissions are made. Client relations are valued and cannot be taken for granted in this business so we make it absolutely clear and get consent from the candidates. There are however, instances where after the interview the candidate decides not to accept we understand but we do not want to make this a habit. It takes a lot of time and effort to get interviews and find the right project, we try our best to make sure the candidate is happy and we also make sure the client is happy with our services.
